For many women, bras fall into the category of “can’t live with them, can’t live without them.” Remember that time when your strap cut into your shoulder or that pesky underwire kept poking you all day? How can something so essential like bras cause so much trouble for us? Because, let’s face it, a good over the shoulder-boulder-holder is both pricey and hard to come by. With a few bra hacks, you can shape-shift and re-engineer a perfectly good bra to get the job done and save you the expense of buying different types of bras.
And that’s exactly what you’ll find in today’s post! Here, I’ve gathered some brilliant bra hacks about wearing bras and I think you’ll find them as useful as I do!
- Underwire Popping Out?:
When the underwire rips through the fabric and is actively trying to stab you, you don’t need advice about how your bra should fit– you need a real FIX! First, let’s explore this issue in depth. The purpose of underwire bra is to lift and support, not to scratch you or threaten your organs. So how’s your underwire going so awry? First, it could be that the bra doesn’t fit you the way it should. Second, improper washing can weaken the fabric, exacerbating those exposed underwires. But luckily there is a quick and easy trick to fix this. Just feed the underwire back in and cover the hole with a piece of moleskin.
- Secure Your Straps:
Tired of your bra straps slipping off your shoulder? A fashion tape really comes in handy for such situations. It’s a double-sided tape– place it under the strap to keep it in place, or over the strap to keep your strap and clothes in place! Either way, a couple of pieces can help! Another hack is, sew a piece of cloth with sewed in clasps to your tee to keep your bra from going rogue on you.
- Prevent Crushed Cups
When you’re packing for a trip, bunch up a few socks or a pair of underwear and place them inside the cups of your bras. This helps the bra keep its shape inside your luggage so that it doesn’t get crushed.
- Instant Built-in Bra:
Occasionally you end up buying a dress that just doesn’t play nicely with any of your bras. In these cases, you are better off building a bra into the dress, and it’s a lot easier than it sounds! Find an inexpensive or old bra, chop off the straps, then hand sew the front part to the inside of any dress with a few quick stitches. And as an added bonus, this is a quick, easy fix and it won’t ever move around on you!
- Tweak Your Cleavage:
There are those few days when you want your cleavage to look slightly heavier and pushed up. On such days, use a bra with a smaller ‘Gore’, which is the gap between the two cups. On other days, when you want your cleavage to look lighter, try a bra that has a larger gap in the center.
- Keep Up Your Strapless Bra:
Save yourself from tugging at your strapless bra all night. Attach a removable strap to the back of the bra, on either side works. Pull the strap around you underneath the cups to the other side and attach it to the other side. And your job is done! Your strapless bra is now more secure.
- DIY Cross-back Bra:
Sometimes, you have bras that don’t have detachable straps or a hook to cross them over. In cases like this, instead of buying a racerback bra, just use a bra clip to pin your straps together temporarily. A paperclip works too, in a pinch.
- Two Finger Trick:
While purchasing a bra always choose one that fits on the loosest hook. When the bra loosens with wear, you can keep going one hook tighter. When in doubt do the two-finger trick. You know that your band fits perfectly, when there’s only enough space for two fingers to slide in.
[Sometimes when trying a new bra it might seem perfect, but as soon as you wear clothes over it, the shit hits the fan. So whenever you go bra shopping, wear a t-shirt, because if a bra is perfect for a t-shirt, it’s perfect for everything else.]
- Enhanced Cleavage:
If you’re not satisfied with the lift your pushup bra provides, try using small bra inserts known as cookies to add more lift. These eye-shaped pads come in standard foam material which is lighter, as well as in gel format that mimics the weight and feel of real breasts.
- DIY Bra-strap Extension:
Low-back dresses are very flirty, but when your bra strap shows, it totally messes up the look. If you don’t have one of those special bras, you can make your own for cheap. First, take a strip of elastic the same size as your rib cage. Then, take a bra hook extender and cut separate the hooks from the eyelets. Next, sew one on each side of the elastic, making sure you can hook them together like a normal bra clasp. Finally, just hook the extender to one side of your bra clasp, wrap around your back and then hook it onto your other bra strap.
Once you’ve gone under this initiation of tips about how to manage your bras, bras are going to be much less of a pester and you can make them slave to you instead of the other way around! These bra hacks might sound silly, but trust me it works wonders.
